Our Story
My professional journey began with the original Kona Beach Boys. There, I taught surf lessons and guided historical canoe excursions along the magnificent Kona coastline.
What We Offer
Surf Lessons Program
Beginner Surf Lessons
Perfect for first-timers and those new to the ocean, our beginner lessons focus on the fundamentals of surfing in a safe and supportive environment. You’ll learn ocean awareness, how to read the water, proper paddling techniques, and how to time and catch waves with confidence. Our instructors guide you step by step, helping you understand wave patterns so you can get up and ride your first waves. All equipment is provided.
Intermediate / Advanced Coaching
Designed for surfers looking to improve their skills, this coaching focuses on technique, wave selection, timing, and performance. You’ll learn how to better read the lineup, position yourself correctly, and choose the right waves to catch. With personalized feedback and in-water coaching, our instructors help you refine your turns, improve paddle strength, and build confidence in more challenging conditions.
Kids & Family Lessons
A fun, safe, and memorable experience for all ages. Our kids and family lessons create a relaxed, encouraging environment where everyone can learn together. Instructors focus on safety, basic techniques, and helping each participant understand the ocean and how waves work. We guide you on when and where to catch waves, so both kids and adults can enjoy successful, confidence-building rides.
Spear Fishing Classes
Explore the underwater world with our guided spearfishing classes. Learn essential skills such as equipment handling, breath control, safety practices, and responsible harvesting techniques. Our instructors also teach you how to read ocean conditions, currents, and wave movements to safely enter and exit the water and locate the best fishing spots. Whether you’re a beginner or advancing your skills, you’ll gain the knowledge needed for safe and effective spearfishing.

We had a great time with Jae and his crew! I found Jae by looking up safe surf lessons for kids in Kahalu'u, and this certainly did not disappoint. Starting with communication.. Jae made sure we were only booking on a good day for waves... very easy to talk to, he wants a good experience for all! With a 5, 6, and two 8 year old boys who are good swimmers but never surfed, it was great having the instructors each with the little boys on the boards.. I felt very safe with these professional surfers! The 8 year olds were doing great with one instructor. And all the boys caught so many waves! Now all they want to do is surf! The adults were able to tag along and float with everyone, and try to catch some waves too.. it was great for all of us! Highly recommend and we will be back!

As a first time surfer I can't say enough good things about this company. Jonah was our instructor and he was able to guide me into standing up pretty quickly into my surf lesson. Very patient and understanding. Very kind person which relieved all the fears I had going into this surfing class. This experience made me want to come back for more. Highly recommend it !!

We had the pleasure to have lessons with Jae and Jonah in Kona. My 8 year old went with Jae and Jonah taught my 12 and 13 year old. They all loved it and caught so many waves that I kept missing taking photos when I looked down to check what I already had. Jae and Jonah were great with the kids and were careful and thoughtful about their safety. They knew where to surf, when to start paddling, and made the kids confident to try to do most of the work with maybe a light push at the end if they werent quite up to wave speed. We will be calling Jae and Jonah the next time we are in Kona and have already recommended them to people we meet.

After a weekend of rough waves cancelling our snorkeling outings, I was scrambling to find something for my family to experience. I called around to find a last minute surfing lessons for my daughters and Jae came through big time! My girls loved it so much they are now asking for their own surfboards. Jae made the whole experience fun and kept it safe for them. I know there are a lot of great instructors in Kona but I recommend anyone interested to give Jae a call first.
